Wednesday, September 24, 2008 | frustrated | Metal Gear Solid (PS)
As the title says, metal gear solid, althought it had an amazing intro, seemed like a really boring game the first time I played it.
That's for only one reason. I did not, and still don't enjoy the subject. I have movies and games about terrorism and terrorist factions who are trying to dominate the world and stuff like that.
I did however try it as it was the very first PS game i've played.
I enjoyed the graphics, which were great at the time and i really enjoyed the gameplay from the first levels.
I noticed something new, that I obviously hadn't seen in other games before. That's that, I had the option not to kill every enemy that I encountered. I could go past them, I could drag them unconscious into a dark corner, I could trick them in so many ways. As I was a little kid then, around 9-10 years old, I didn't really understand much of the storyline, just the basic stuff. But there was something about Metal Gear Solid that made me play it over and over again, and i finished it around 7-8 times.
About 6 years later, I put my hands on the pc version of the game and I was very eager to play it. I enjoyed it to the fullest, I didn't even pay attention to the graphics, which looked pretty good anyway, even for that time, and the most important part, I understood the storyline, the whole storyline. Since the very first twists and misteries that the game's story has to offer, I was drawn to the game to such extent that it was my only preocupation for a few days. I finally finished it and reviewed it a couple of times in my head. I really loved the voice acting, I loved the atmosphere and I thought, and still think, that Metal Gear Solid has a better storyline than any other game I ever layed my eyes on and that it is the best stealth/action game I've ever played.
Wednesday, September 24, 2008 | excited | S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl (PC)
The first time I played Stalker. It was about a year and a half ago when i still had a shitty Ati Radeon 9550, not that my current video card isn't shitty.. but oh well.
Anyway, i waited for a while for the game to get loaded, i loved the intro and as soon as i entered the game i knew it would be something special. I loved the music at the trader's and I quickly rushed things to get outside. I had no idea what kind of world was expecting me. It was morning(ingame) and there was a wonderful atmosphere. I talked to some of the NPCs which were so lifelike, they were also talking to each other and then, one of them took out a guitar out of his ... pocket :), not that it bothered me one bit, and started playing. He had some nice riffs actually.
Anyway, as i went on with the game it seemed to change, it wasn't just a regular shooter. I discovered you could have loads of items, the atmosphere became much darker and the graphics were fantastic. I payed no mind to the gameplay and AI flaws as they faded away into the background because of how intrigued i was with this game.

I think it's been one of the best gaming experiences ever. I'm still playing the game today and I'm enjoying it to the fullest.
